When we heard that Jason Jones (Porgie & Mr Jones, Friends of Mine, Snow Pony, The Stables of Como) and Philippa Sibley (Albert St Food & Wine) were joining forces, our hungry little ears pricked up. When we heard it was going to be Australia’s first ticketed dining experience, we were officially intrigued.
Prix Fixe is launching February 21 and tickets are on sale now. Yep that’s right tickets. Non-refundable tickets. Just like the theatre.
Down Alfred Place at the Paris end of Collins Street, Prix Fixe will present a theatre like experience where the food is the show. While some venues takes inspiration form regional produce and dining trends (although we’re sure there will be some of that involved), Prix Fixe is taking its inspiration from people, the arts and music with their monthly menus. They are the one day here, then forever gone type menus, so if you see a theme you like, don’t be shy.
The first month is playing homage to one of Shakespeare’s greats and a Melbourne Botanical Gardens favourite – A midsummer Night’s Dream. Which is conveniently showing at the gardens right now. In true Athens form, the menu is learning towards a Mediterranean vibe, with roast chicken and a mysterious green sauce said to hit the tables. And with Sibley in charge, we are almost confident the dessert will be worth the trip alone.
Lunch starts at $49pp for two courses with a glass of wine, with dinner at $79pp for four courses. Wines and cocktails can be purchased on consumption. Thank goodness.
We’re not going to lie; we want front row tix to this one.
