Tech Addict: The Ember Mug 2 – is it love at first sip?

We’ve all been there, you make (or buy, no judgment here) the perfect cuppa, and just after that first sip, something distracts you away long enough for the coffee to undrinkably cold and not something you want to ingest. This next product guarantees that the disappointingly cold coffee is a thing of the past.

The stainless steel 295ml Ember Mug 2

Designed for home or office, Ember Mug 2 does more than simply keep your coffee hot. This smart mug allows you to set an exact drinking temperature, so your coffee is never too hot, or too cold. This writer has set up the Ember Mug 2 on my office desk; the perfect place to sip away while working through a mountain of emails.

Useability:

First things first… this is a good looking piece of drinkware. Depending on the model you get, you have various options of finish, this time around we’ve ended up with the stainless steel 10oz (or 295ml for us Aussies) size, which is just big enough to fit a large coffee from the local cafe. There’s a nice weight to it, and it seems well put together and durable. It’s also remarkably easy to wash out in the sink, however it’s not one for the dishwasher.

What truly sets the Ember Mug apart is its exceptional temperature control feature. It’s a smart little thing as well, via the Ember App you simply pair the device with your phone, and it takes you to a simple temperature gauge. From there you can easily set you desired temperature anywhere from 50°C to 62.5°C. The mug then keeps the coffee at that precise temperature for up to 1.5hrs, or 80mins for the larger 414ml mug. No more rushed sips to avoid lukewarm coffee! It maintains the heat consistently, so every sip is just as delightful as the first. I have found about 56°C to be the perfect temperature for my flat white, however any hotter and the milk can start to get a bit too hot for this writer’s preference.

The battery:

As we mentioned above, the Ember Mug’s battery life is impressive, lasting for about 90 minutes on a full charge, depending on the chosen temperature setting and the mug size. While this is generally sufficient for most coffee sessions, some may wish it could keep my coffee hot for a bit longer I’m sure however during reviewing, this writer never had an issue with the battery life. Nevertheless, the included charging coaster is convenient and ensures that my Ember Mug is always ready for action.

The Ember Mugs are charged wirelessly by being placed on their coaster.

The cost:

Admittedly, the Ember Mug is an investment in your coffee-drinking pleasure. Ember Mugs are available in 178ml, 295ml and 414ml sizes and retail between $130 and $220. It’s priced a fair higher than most traditional coffee mugs. However, for those who value a consistently hot cup of coffee or tea, it’s well worth the cost. The quality and convenience it offers make it a worthy addition to your kitchen or workspace.

The verdict:

The Ember Mug has the ability to redefine how you enjoy your daily dose of caffeine. Its exceptional temperature control, elegant design, and ease of use have made it a must-have for any coffee lover. While it comes with a higher price tag, the luxury of always having the perfect temperature in your cup makes it an investment worth considering. If you’re passionate about your coffee, the Ember Mug will undoubtedly elevate your coffee-drinking experience.

What we’re addicted to:
– The design is sleek
– User-friendly app
– Perfectly hot coffee every time

What we need to be more addicted?
– It’s a lot of money for a mug
– Not dishwasher safe
– If it could keep drinks cold too, that would be a gamechanger

Ember Mugs are priced from $130 and are available through pre-orders at JB Hi-Fi and David Jones in addition to online via Amazon.com.au and ember.com
