International Film Festivals coming to Australia

4_bankladyWhen you can’t afford a trip around the world, just wait, and the world might just come to you. In our International Film wrap up we help you kick off your year with a myriad of International film festivals that are doing just that.  

Alliance Française French Film Festival

For the 25th year, the French Film festival is back to romance us. 46 feature films and documentaries will span across seven locations around Australia for two months.

Opening night across all cities will see The Finishers kick off the proceedings. This dramatic film, with characters inspired by a true story, stars Jacques Gamblin and Alexandra Lamy. It follows the touching story of a former Ironman champion, and his disabled son and their journey to compete in a triathlon. 

Other films include Going Away directed by Nicole Garcia, It Boy directed by David Moreau and Just A Sign directed by Jérôme Bonnell.

Sydney:  4 – 23 March, Melbourne: 5 – 23 March, Canberra:  6 – 25 March, Brisbane:   6 – 25 March, Perth: 18 March – 6 April, Adelaide: 20 March – 8 April, Byron Bay:  24 – 28 April

Audi Festival of German Films 

In its 13th year, the German festival of film will be Directed by Dr. Arpad Sölter, with help from his international panel of movie experts. The team has hand selected 50 award winning and critically acclaimed features, short films and documentaries. The combination of films really speaks to the complex and changing German culture.   

The festival will take place in six locations over two weeks. Launching the festival will be the film Bankladya true tale of Gisela Werler, West Germany’s first female bank robber.

Sydney: 26 March to 10 April, Melbourne: 27 March to 11 April, Brisbane: 28 March to 3 April, Canberra: 1 April to 6 April

Indian Film Festival of Melbourne

In partnership with Film Victoria Australia, the Indian Film Festival of Melbourne is aiming to bring together these exact two things: Indian film and the Film industry in Melbourne. From thrillers to comedies, art house to musicals, classic and contemporary cinema will be on the big screen. The actors and filmmakers will be on hand to discuss their films in a series of Master Classes.
