The bar that calls BS: Brooklyn Social

Brooklyn SocialBoobs. That’s the first thing you’ll see when you walk through the black plastic flaps (think butchers cold room) into Brooklyn Social.

Of course, we’re not talking about the real deal – this is Surry Hills not Brooklyn – but the edgy black and white collages plastered on the walls are hard to miss.

Brooklyn Social is the brand new bar above The Hills and they don’t give a BS.

Well that’s what the burgers say anyway. The Brooklyn social’s very own branding iron stamps a big bold ‘BS’ on every burger and the meaning is up for interpretation.

It’s the words we find ourselves saying as the 1.4 Pounder (Brooklyn Special) cheeseburger makes it’s way over.

“BS. That’s one big burger!” Skewered together but still toppling over, this is not first date food, but it is chin wiping-ly good.

While your hands are dirty, save room for the ribs, served with a DIY BBQ sauce that comes in a jar and pastry brush.

There’s hot dogs, deep fried balls of Mac and Cheese that are as irresistible as they sound, sweet potato fries and even curly fries.

So much dude food makes a girl thirsty – wipe off your hands and a raise a pinky with a Lady Grey Martini, made on Earl Grey-infused Hendricks Gin and served in a Hendricks gin teacup.

There’s plenty of other cocktails too, all separated into suburbs on the menu. Try tipples from Queens, Staten Island, Brooklyn, The Bronx and Manhattan. Sightseeing has never been so fun.

Hendricks Gin is the house pour, wines are stacked behind the bar in crates, Brooklyn Lager is always on tap and Andy Warhol prints line the walls.

Save room for DIY dessert – cinnamon donuts with inject-your-own chocolate sauce.

The lights are low, the walls are dark and if the The Ramones aren’t playing on the jukebox, the DJ table is spinning.
