Getting Grilled at Wagyu Ya

Wagyuya-sashimi

Sometimes you don’t need a new venue to open to discover something new. Not in Melbourne anyway. Wagyu Ya opened at the end of 2013 but we recently found our feet taking us there to find out exactly what they do.

Wagyu Ya on Toorak Road in South Yarra is all about authentic Japanese cuisine and their fun smokeless grills, which make wagyu eating all the more fun. Take the stairs up to the second level, grab a table and you’ll be sitting next to one of these intriguing grills. The technology allows for the flames and smoke to be sucked into the bottom of the grill and pulled out the back, removing that smoke from your table and the room. Genius right? We thought so.

The wagyu menu is extensive to say the least, and there are sets involved for those who want to eat with a group, and eat well. The Wagyu Ya Luxe Set for example serves up four different styles of wagyu including the marble score 9+ Oyster Blade, the marble score 10+ sirloin steak, the marble score 9+ striploin, and the Marble 9+ Misuji slice. If you can get your hands on the 10+ you should. It melts in your mouth and leaves you feeling rather indulgent.

If you didn’t come for the waygu there is still plenty for you. The sashimi is varied and fresh, while the savoury egg custard served in adorable bowls is a lovely starter.

Finish the evening with a house-made green tea cheesecake, if you’ve still got room.
