Crafty beer

Beer Diva masterclass
The good news, according to ‘Beer Diva’Kirrily Waldhorn is that we’re drinking less beer. And the better news? We’re drinking more craft beers.

Craft beer is typically that produced in a smaller scale using very high quality malt, hops and other ingredients without adding adjuncts to speed up fermentation. Besides the linger-in-the-mouth flavour they have a tendency for loud titles – take this year’s Australian Beer Award Winners; Feral White, Hop Hog or Razorback, Wicked Elf Witbier andTemple Saison.

If you’re interested in flavour and food, she’s launched a new series of beer masterclasses held twice a month.  To introduce you to a brave new world where “beer is not just schooners in the pub for blokes” and have some fun matching six boutique beers with food.

She’ll put you up for a few challenges; a blind tasting to identify flavour characteristics, and a proper pour (how to create a stable head so you don’t lose the complex flavours).

With 91 different styles of craft beer, there’s plenty this diva can sing about.
