French fancy

Enter the doors and imagine you’re on the Rue de la Paix.

The new Cartier Maison on Collins Street may not have the history of its chic Parisian flagship, but there is certainly something timeless about French architect Bruno Moinard’s new space.

It starts with the marble and bronze façade imported from France and the classic Panthère rings in the window. Past the besuited doorman, there is deep caramel carpet soaking up any sound at all, counters edged in bronze, rich timbers and leather lining the walls. Over the scene hangs a stunning Venetian crystal chandelier – individual drops giving it a contemporary edge.

For years, Cartier operated from a small store in Exhibition Street, but this opening gives its elegant jewellery and timepieces the backdrop they deserve. If you’re a couple planning on tying the knot (or celebrating an anniversary) partake in the ‘Set For You’ service, picking a setting for a solitaire diamond that is then completed in Cartier’s workshop.

Also on display is the Cartier d’Amour platinum and diamond wedding band. Now, if you really wanted to impress someone this Valentine’s Day…
