Go El Loco at Slip Inn

Slip Inn El LocoFollowing its trips to the seaside and time in the big smoke the El Loco pop up has decided its travelling days are over. It’s unpacking its foodie suitcase and moving into a permanent home at the Slip Inn.

Don the Ray Bans and prepare for a riot of food, colour and music as one our city’s most beloved boozers turns into party central for chipotle lovers.

Mexican madness reins as Dan Hong mixes the mighty Mex with a smattering of LA street cool and Vietnamese pop.

Get two handed and intimate with tacos piled chipotle mayo, salsa verde and crispy baja fish. Be warned! you could end up with salsa roja blusher if jaw to serviette movements aren’t fast enough. The famed hot dog is a ‘rico’ blend of jalapenos, mayo queso fresca on pillow soft bun. Salad haters will be converted with a snowfall of haloumi covering a forest of tortilla strips, fennel and radish. Dishes exclusive to this new home include a cracking BBQ chicken and grilled fish but save a room for a fresh hit of herby apple-slaw Cobia ceviche.

Give the margarita menu a work out, just don’t be surprised if you find yourself dancing with a life size wooden cactus at the end of it.

About the author

Karen’s corporate job back in the UK had included entertaining clients in some of the best restaurants. This ultimately sparked a curiosity 'Just how do they do that?' (she confesses she was brought up on meat and vegetables, so this was all very exciting). Currently a Mr & Mrs Smith 'Tastemaker', she’s flashpacked around the world, learning about wine, experiencing different cultures and cuisines and had a two- year love affair with it all. Originally from England, she finally settled in Australia and continues to be besotted by food, wine and travel preferring to focus on the luxury end of town (thread count does matter).
