Hellenic Republic Opens in Kew

featureHellenic Republic has been feeding us for a while now. If you’re anything like us, you’ve had dreams about that grain salad. And now, there is more of a good thing to go around. Hellenic Republic has opened it’s second venue in Kew, where St Katherine’s once stood.

While there was a fire in the old restaurant, George Calombaris tells us that after Shane Delia parted from the group, after a great partnership, it just made sense to go back to his Greek roots rather than sticking with the Middle Eastern vibe.

For Calombaris, Hellenic Republic is the food he wants to eat every day – healthy and happy food. With Travis McAuley at the helm of both Brunswick and Kew, we can expect a lot of similar menu items, with a few tweaks here and there to accommodate the surroundings and the unique crowds.

The space, which holds 100 guests and has room for a 100 large function upstairs, has been given a face-lift with artwork on the walls by Dan Wenn. For Calombaris this artwork represents the beliefs and cultures of the venue.

With the response from the public a very positive one already, we’re looking forward to Sweet Hellenic popping up in the coming months. It will be a modern version of a Greek cake shop, and we will be keeping our eyes on that one.
