the new comedy festival diet

No need to feel guilty about not using your new gym membership. You can always try toning up your abs from laughing. And you can rely on a number of comedy festivals scheduled over the next few months to incentivise.

Raw Comedy 2008 is Australia’s largest open mic comedy competition with heats now being held every Monday until 3 March and state finals on 7 March, at the Sydney Comedy Store. To get a gig here you must first qualify as a new comedian, and second, bring a good dose of courage and cheer squad. Expect surprisingly undiscovered talent, witty banter with hosts including Claire Hooper, Edinburgh Film Festival 06 comedian, and other special guest MCs.

The best local comedians and those of international acclaim will be showcased at The Cracker Sydney Festival 2008 during 16 April – 11 May. For high fat-burning sessions try:

One-Man Star Wars Trilogy
This 60-minute gig is evident that Charles Ross spent too much of his childhood (and now adulthood) in a galaxy far, far away. You’ll see Yoda, Princess Leia, and all your favourite characters, special effects recreations, intergalactic flights and fights from both sides of the Force.

The Chaser’s Age Of Terror Variety Hour

War On Everything co-conspirators Andrew Hansen, Chas Licciardello, Julian Morrow and Craig Reucassel will sketch, sing, satirically present and entertain you with their timely insensitive gags about the latest celebrity deaths and dealings.

Itching for something hilarious? Canadian improvisation supreme duo Kevin Gillese and Arlen Konopaki churn out stunning no-script, frenetic-paced theatre.

No fads, just the most entertaining and motivational diet on the market yet.
