It has featured in reviews in glossy food magazines and daily papers, but when owners Stuart Brookshaw and Ruth Giffney opened Albert St Food and Wine they really intended it to be a store. Not just any sort of store, but a New York-style deli and providore.
Finally, the addition to the lofty space in an old bank building on the corner of Sydney Road and Albert Street is open. Stock up on artisanal cheese and breads, grab a jar of locally raised Rooftop Honey, or fill your basket with executive chef Philippa Sibley’s homemade jams, relishes and preserves.
In the lead-up to Easter, drop in to see Philippa’s latest handiwork. Known as Melbourne’s queen of desserts, she’s also doing a range of chocolates.
Oh, and you can even purchase a bottle of wine – the perfect option for spontaneous picnics.
