Bondi’s Italian Stallion

If the Italian Stallion was a butcher, you’d find him at La Macelleria in Bondi.

An ode to all things red-blooded and meaty, this all-Italian butcher and salumeria (meaning cold meats) is as dark, brooding and handsome as they come.

Be greeted by European men in white coats and flat caps, soak up Italian operatic tunes and watch the vintage meat-slicer glide backward and forward over the more than impressive cured meat collection – all while the kids are kept entertained on the PlayStation.

The shop’s divided into sections; curing, dry aging, raw bar, cheeses and a rotisserie – ricotta stuffed spatchcock, anyone?. There’s a Panini bar too. A dozen selections, all ‘12 bucks’, topped to the rim with Italian meats and cheeses. And one vegetarian option, for good measure.

La Macelleria is from the same gents behind Icebergs, North Bondi Italian and the new Neild Ave in Rushcutters Bay – so it’s no surprise it’s already a hive of eastern suburb yummy-mummy activity.

Sitting chest-out on the corner of Curlewis and Gould Street in the new Beach House complex (home to Miss Chu and Sonoma), La Macelleria is definitely worth a perv.
