Pilgrims Brings Vegetarian Food to the Masses

Pilgrims 3The name says it all. Long before opening a new outpost across the road from Cronulla RSL, Pilgrims had a dedicated following of visitors. They drove all the way to Milton, or at least made a detour on road trips down south, to taste the legendary vegetarian fare.

Now the new Cronulla site is bringing fresh bliss balls, salads, burgers, wraps, and pies to the people of Sydney.

Like proper pilgrims, café goers are prepared to wait. At noon on a Saturday, you’re forewarned food orders will be an hour.

An breakfast is a safer bet – get in early and grab a table by the windows.  Fluffy buttermilk pancakes and the Pilgrim’s crunchy homemade granola prove that vegetarian food can feed the masses.

When it comes to lunch, the Bliss Burger has a following of its own. Chow down on a wholemeal bun packed with mixed grain pattie, fried onion, avocado, special sauce and peanut sauce, and you won’t miss meat at all.

Forrester’s Pub on the corner of Riley Street in Surry Hills has been a much loved watering hole for almost 100 years, it’s seen different owners, changes of prime ministers, generations of friends and family along with periods of being laid ‘fallow’ to rest. It took hospitality favourites, Applejack to rescue this local gem and bring it back to life. A budget of $1.5m doesn’t get you much these days but the renovation its both sensitive to its history and of this era, reflecting a new, more feminine, organic and lighter approach to interior design.
