Meet The Champagne Dame

It’s the drink of celebration – one that’s associated with glamour, good times and gregarious cash flow. Champagne, darling.

Don’t mistake it for mere bubbly and, if you’ve been guilty of doing that in the past, then Kyla Kirkpatrick has a lot to teach you.

She’s known as the Champagne Dame and from her South Yarra digs, she gives regular lessons in Champagne lifestyle, with instruction about how to recognise and appreciate the finer things…in a glass, of course.

This month, she’s appearing at St Kilda’s newly renovated CIRCA Hotel. Where else but the private dining room?

Being French, true Champagne has its own etiquette. Luckily Kyla can share all on the liquid gold; from how to open a bottle, how to pour from the bottle in the least bubble-flattening manner, how to serve, and importantly in this city of foodies, how to pair with the perfect culinary accompaniment.

It’s more than mere luck that the Champagne region of France is able to produce such golden nectar. The Dame’s Masterclass takes students through the geographical and cultural history of the unique region to explain different varietals; the ‘how?’ and ‘why?’ of Champagne. And to think all you thought that mattered was ‘when?’.
