Like Dessert? You’ll Love ‘Love Crêpe’

If you like your Nutella by the truckload and your crepes fully loaded then this desert bar in Drummoyne is definitely for you. Established in 2016, Love Crêpe, is a dessert destination that will undoubtedly find its way onto any food lovers bucket list.

Stepped slightly back from the busy Lyons Road in a heritage home adorned with fairy lights, Love Crêpe is the perfect spot for a late night treat. When we visited, despite the cold weather, the place was packed with locals from young families to packs of teenagers and older couples. The courtyard is more than comfortable but, a word of warning, they’re currently only providing outdoor seating so bring a jacket!

Owner and crêpe connoisseur, Nick Kondilis, grew up spending his summers holidaying at various Greek islands and whilst there’s a lot to love about Greek islands from the sand to the gleaming blue water to the ouzo and the Greeks themselves, for Kondilis, the highlight of every holiday was always the crêpes.

Bringing the love of these handheld crêpes back down under, Kondilis has teamed up with consultant chef Tomislav Martinovic to come up with a new selection of signature crêpes. If Martinovic’s name rings a bell it’s because he’s become a pretty big deal in the Sydney food scene, masterminding behind the most recent menus at Quick Brown Fox and Alex & Co.

The new menu features four crêpes which all ring in at $16. The Biscoff banana crêpe is an ode to Europe’s obsession with the Lotus Biscoff spread which coats the crêpe which is then packed full of crushed pecans, fresh banana, Lotus biscuits and topped with passionfruit cream. The peanut butter berries crepe is a colourful combo of almond sponge, peanut butter biscuit, fresh blackberries, blueberry cream and freeze-dried mandarin.

We were lucky enough to get our hands on the final two signature crepes. The chocolate strawberry crêpe is a bottomless pit of chocolate-y goodness. Piped full of milk chocolate cream and loaded up with brownie chunks, candied hazelnuts, dark chocolate wafers and fresh strawberries, this crêpe should only be attempted by serious sweet-tooths. The ricotta fig crêpe is filled to the brim, and offers a seemingly endless array of flavours, with whipped ricotta cheese, lemon syrup, candied pecans and fresh figs. It’s fresh and refreshing and seriously filling!

So, I mentioned Nutella earlier and for good reason because Love Crêpe might just be the biggest consumer of Nutella in Sydney with Kondilis telling us he goes through roughly 40-50 industrial-sized buckets of Nutella a week! Serving up Nutella crêpes and incredibly moreish waffle balls filled with the hazelnut spread as well as a whole range of delicious gelatos and sorbets, Love Crêpe is a worthy spot on any dessert pilgrimage.
