If there’s anything more transfixing than gazing into an alluring work of art, it’s eyeing up the juicy centre of a succulent mini hamburger.
Thanks to the guys behind Darlinghurst’s Lo-Fi, you can do both at the freshly refurbished Toxteth Hotel in Glebe. Offering a form of entertainment far more enlightening than people watching through a dusty pub window with its newly launched artist’s exhibition space dubbed The Tate.
Don’t be put off by the abandoned pokies and head straight outside to the airy courtyard. If it’s gastronomic enlightenment you seek, then pause here for sliders so good they’re presented on a triple-tiered cake stand.
For a cultural awakening, head up the narrow staircase à la Lo-Fi (we’ll pretend you’ve not been too distracted by the caipiroskas to notice it’s a bar and art arena) consisting of rent-free studio spaces and showcasing art by Sydney’s newest up-starts. Already the walls have boasted works from Numskull, Joseph Allen Shea and six-year-old Max Treffkorn, with new exhibits rolling in every few days.
