It was one of those gloomy Wednesday afternoons. Nothing was going right, and I was in a foul mood. Suddenly, I heard a knock at the door.
Sitting on the doorstep was a beautifully packaged box from Marnong Estate. I opened it to reveal two elegant bottles of Pinot Noir nestled inside. My mood lifted immediately. It was barely midday, and I was tempted to crack one open there and then. Somehow, I exercised remarkable self-control and waited until 5.30pm.
First Up. The Marnong Estate 2025 Pinot Noir
The first bottle we opened was the 2025 Marnong Estate Pinot Noir, and it didn’t disappoint. Bright, approachable and effortlessly drinkable, it’s full of vibrant red fruit and plenty of personality, without trying too hard. It’ss a wine that complements food beautifully rather than overpowering it. We paired it with roast chicken, and it was a fabulous match.
The Main Event. Heart Single Vineyard Pinot Noir 2025
A few nights later came a more special occasion, so out came the 2025 Heart Single Vineyard Pinot Noir.
This is a very different wine. Richer, more structured and layered with complexity. Rather than simply pouring another glass, I find myself slowing down, to mindfully discovering new aromas and flavours as the evening unfolds.
It’s a wine that brings people together around the table, yet I could happily enjoy a quiet glass alone after a long day. Sophisticated, elegant and deeply satisfying.
The Estate
After the very last drop had disappeared from both bottles, I did what any curious wine lover would do -headed straight to the Marnong Estate website.
All I can say is… wow.
A stunning restaurant. Luxury accommodation. A cellar door. Expansive vineyards. And some of the most panoramic views I’ve seen from a winery, just from the photos alone. Pinot Noir is only part of the story, too, with an impressive range of wines waiting to be discovered.
I made myself a promise. Before too long, I’ll be making the trip to the Marnong for a try of these delightful wines in their natural habitat. And I suspect they’ll taste even better there.
