THE BAR at the end of the wharf

by Karen Lawson 16 April, 2012

Screams can be heard from the huge sundecks of this bar. But it’s not due to the cost of the wine or menu.

It’s the muffled sound of delight bouncing across the water ways from Luna Park, mixed with the oohs and ahhs of delight from discovering what has its sights set on becoming one of Sydney’s iconic bars. It’s got the trifecta; water views, bar savvy and ‘pow’ factor.

You gotta love the marketing nouse (not to mention GPS genius): “Hey, where is that bar we’re meeting at tonight? Oh yeah The Bar at the end of the wharf!” Housed inside the STC, the design teams have created a visionary delight of heritage meets mad men design with stripped floorboards, ping pong tables, vintage metal hanging lights, jam jars twinkling with tea lights and posy’s of roses which lead the eye to the main event, the uninterrupted Sydney skyline.

Chow down on platters of risotto balls, crispy school prawns, chicken liver pate and sliders as you stare up at the Harbour Bridge, so close you could reach out and touch it.

The next drinks destination for you and your culture-vulture crew.

Karen Lawson

Karen Lawson's corporate job back in the UK had included entertaining clients in some of the best restaurants. This ultimately sparked a curiosity 'Just how do they do that?' (she confesses she was brought up on meat and vegetables, so this was all very exciting). She's the ex MD of Spotify, Peloton and has been a Mr & Mrs Smith 'Tastemaker', she’s flashpacked around the world, learning about wine, experiencing different cultures and cuisines and had a two- year love affair with it all. Originally from England, she's settled in Australia and continues to be besotted by food, wine and travel preferring to focus on the luxury end of town (thread count does matter).
