The Bondi to Bronte coastal walk is brilliant all year round – whether you’re running, walking, talking, picnicking or reading a book, its nooks and crannies, sandstone rock ledges and grassy knolls are so Sydney. But for a few short weeks on the cusp of summer, that walk gets even better.
Yes, it’s that time of year again. Sculpture by the Sea kicks off on 23rd October (that’s today) and will see art of all shapes and sizes installed along the coast line. Over the years we’ve seen everything from swimming pools built out of skips, bluebottles made from plastic bottle caps, giant wind machines to a carved whale breaching out of Marks Park. This is the place artists let their imaginations run wild.

Once again, artists from around the world have contributed to the prettiest open air exhibition out there. Ok, we may be a little bias there, but come on, the Bondi backdrop is pretty stunning.
The Grounds By The Sea
And this year, there’s another installation that’s already caught our eyes. The Grounds of Alexandria’s “Grounds by the Sea” pop-up café sits proudly on the grass at Marks Park, that halfway mark atop huff-and-puff stairs. It’s the perfect spot for a little drink and a nibble in the sunshine. In true Grounds style, the café is more of a quaint garden cottage. We love the rustic picket fence and welcome sign – both just beg for you to pop inside for a pick-me-up caffeine hit.

Back on the trail, you’ll see everything from selfie sculptures to enormous staircases – remember to get in quick because Sculpture does get busy. Our tip is to get up early and go for a jog along the trail, beat the crowds and reward yourself with a bite and brew from Grounds by the Sea.
