Update 24.3.16, 5.28pm – ‘It is with great disappointment that Elena and Anna from the Market Tales announce that The Market Tales April 2 & 3 Event will be postponed due to a decision made by Marrickville Council to revoke the DA to host all markets at Precinct 75. This is due to a select number of public objections to the markets.
Label, schmable. Artisans are the new designer. Nowadays we’re more interested in the person behind the brand. We want to know who put their blood, sweat and tears into making our favourite new finds. What do they look like? What’s their story? How do they like their eggs?
Getting to know the creative talent behind the things you buy is like discovering the great back-story behind the vintage antique you picked up from the flea market… only what you bought is shiny and new and doesn’t have that lingering musty smell. Yep, nothing but brand spankin’ new, must-have finds (ok, there’s a few vintage pieces but they’re sans the musty smell, promise!) with great stories and inspiring people behind them at market newcomer, The Market Tales.
Setting up home among the brickworks and laneways of creative hub Precinct 75 in St Peters, The Market Tales will be kicking of its first quarterly market over the weekend of April 2-3, 2016. There will be 60 stalls from makers and merchants that cover all your favourite things: fashion, art, jewellery, homewares, design, furniture and vintage memorabilia. Wait, something’s missing. That’s right… there will be food and drink sample stations so no one’s leaving hungry. Then to extend the markets well into the evening The Market Tales Sundowner Sessions will pair beats with batch-made beers and wines.
Rainy Sunday
Now the full list of who’s setting up stalls at the inaugural market day is still TBC but we can reveal that Rainy Sunday, who totally get our obsession with Mason jars, will be there, as will the Design Twins who perfectly mash together Australian made and designed pieces with a Scandi influence, and Where The North Wind Blows who have a curated collection of bohemian-inspired handmade homewares. And for dessert, none other than Black Star Pastry and Cow and Moon.

We also heard rumours there’s axe throwing on-site… you know, just for something different.
But the rest you will have to discover for yourself on the day. And people, please, make sure you strike up a conversation with the sellers – they’ve all got a wicked tale to tell.
