Okay so by now your January New Years resolution is out the window and Feb fast is over. It’s now time for a little bit of March Madness, with epic birthday celebrations, end of Summer send offs and annual events that make the month a big one:
The best kind of birthday bubbles: complimentary Veuve at Manta
A decade in Sydney’s restaurant business is no small feat – Manta has been wining and dining Sydneysiders from Cowper Wharf since 2006 and to celebrate their tenth birthday they’re going all out. We’re talking free French champagne! That’s right, book in to dine on the 24th March, the date they originally opened their doors, mention the big birthday and you’ll receive a glass of Veuve Clicquot. It goes down a treat with the kitchen’s extensive selection of fresh seafood dishes.
But it’s not just about the actual day, like many of us, Manta is extending its birthday out for the entire month. Why not?! For the rest of March you can feast on a $10 Birthday Menu of all their most popular bar snacks – think pancetta-wrapped king prawns, Snapper ceviche and confit chicken wings – and $10 birthday martinis, the classic Manta Martini, a thirst quenching crushed lychee, Belvedere vodka and lime juice cocktail that’s perfect for sipping as the sun goes down on the wharf.
Turning five is a big milestone. Think about it. It’s the very first birthday most of us remember. In the restaurant world, it’s the equivalent of turning 21. You’ve made it out into the world and have a sense of who you are, what you want to be. You’re grown up. To be honest, Woollahra’s Chiswick feels like has been around for eons, and in the restaurant business, cracking five years is no easy feat. To celebrate, Chiswick is bringing back its bombe Alaska dessert, a frozen meringue, lime and coconut ice cream dessert that has a dedicated local following.
Better yet, $10 from every Bombe served in March is being dedicated to The Ovarian Cancer Research Foundation. Okay okay, we’ve gone straight to the cake, but hey, it is a birthday! Just as important is the Pop Up Bar. Out on the lawn each Friday night this month there’ll be fab Belvedere Spritzers between 5 and 8pm, so head down and celebrate the end of your week, and Chiswick’s big month with fun fruity cocktails like the Italiano Spritz –Belvedere vodka, Aperol, rosemary, orange and tonic. If you’re heading inside, pre-book and you’ll get a free fifth course.
Get your brunch on at The Sheaf
We all know The Sheaf doesn’t need an excuse like a birthday to throw a big party, but it’s that time of year again, when Double Bay’s favourite pub ditches the long lunch in favour of brunch. The annual Sunday Brunch is back, this time taking place on March 26th. For just $65 you can spend two hours perusing a decadent feasting table laden with cheeses, charcuterie, pastries, breads… there’s a muesli station, salads, crab sliders, there’s even an oyster station!
Or skip straight to the bar, where you can choose from a flute of Veuve Clicquot or the build-your-own Bloody Mary Station. The buffet goes until noon, but it’s the perfect start to a Sunday session so settle in to The Garden Bar for as long as you like. 26th March, tickets $65 per person.
Social Serve will take over the rooftop of Rose Bay’s Lyne Park Tennis Centre on Saturday 18th March so that you can say farewell to summer in style. The event kicks off at 4pm with all the ingredients for a fun afternoon at the tennis – we’re talking Aperol Spritz, Pimms, food, DJs and friendly doubles matches. Sign up for a match early on, so that you can enjoy the cocktails without damaging your serve, or hey, maybe a few drinks will improve your game!
