Hotel Review: Your Casita, Mamita

by Ivy Carruth 13 December, 2024
2.1K

The Casita Motel, located on NSW’s South Coast in Batehaven, is retro-modern, dreamy, and just the spot for your weekend getaway from all the things.

Cute as a button

A peaceful, easy feeling

We’re here for a weekend, and on the itinerary? Not much. Not much at all – and I can’t wait for it. I’m armed with a few books from the library, a few these-have-been-in-my-queue-forever podcasts that I WILL finally listen to and some pre-made summer-fruit-filled jugs of white sangria.

All in the family

Casita is just across the beach off a quiet street and sits next door to The Isla, owned by the same folks. Think of them as cousins rather than sisters; one grew up in a family a bit more posh than the other, one is a bit more elegant and well-amenitied. The Casita is no Cinderella, though; she’s a charmer with heart and well-thought-out interiors. She’s also an incredible value.

The Vivo Suite, with its light-flooded sunroom

Connecting and staying in

Boutique and cosy with just seven two-bedroom suites, each is fully equipped with a kitchenette. We utilised it both nights instead of going out for dinner. We stayed in the Alto Suite, which sits atop the building and is accessible by a set of stairs. It’s ideal for families or a small group of friends and couples with a private six-seater alfresco ‘dining room’ and drink-it-all-in beach views.

The Alto Suite functions as a penthouse, and has ocean views

Barefoot in the grass

The small touches make a big difference. Leif soap and shampoo, T2 teas, SmartTV with Chromecast, high-speed wifi, deep Koala sofabed and coffee pod machine. There’s no pool, but the fairy-light-festooned BBQ area is a beautiful place to kick back, listen to the waves and commune with the outdoors.

Tuning in and switching off

Think of it like your holiday apartment, but better.

Casita Motel is at 220 Beach Road, Batehaven, NSW (Bateman’s Bay). Self-check-in with a code emailed to your phone post-arrival. Bookings from $250 per night.

Ivy Carruth

Ivy believes in the power of the perfect cupcake, and drinks her Pinot Noir with an ice cube. Originally from Atlanta, Georgia, she knows a thing or two about hospitality and that the word ‘y’all’ will never completely disappear from her vocabulary. Happily settled in Sydney, she’s always up for an adventure and a long black with oat milk. When she’s not travelling, she’s practicing Pilates, reading or kissing strangers’ dogs on the mouth. Especially if it’s a rescue dog.
