Bakery Nights is a mystery-style pop-up dinner in a Bourke Street Bakery that isn’t on Bourke Street, and takes place at an hour when most pastry consumption is done under the influence of alcohol. If all that’s a little baffling you can take comfort in the knowledge that chef Katrina Hollis is behind the venture, taking her Rockpool and Icebergs expertise to the landlocked suburb of Marrickville.
It’s here, on two Saturday evenings per month, that Bourke Street’s Mitchell Street outpost churns out a rotating three-course menu of seasonal produce bent on sustainable farming practices.
Recent themes have included “The Humble Apple”, “Iron Chef” and “Middle Eastern Feast”, with popular dishes ranging from braised white rabbit pie with parsnip puree to Pancetta-wrapped sea scallops with borlotti beans and pistachio dressing. A BYO wine policy helps alleviate any food-sharing trepidation.
