Sokyo Lounge

sokyohero2Lounges are often waiting rooms for a new discovery; a flight, a hotel room or restaurant. So when it’s the main event we take note.

The newly launched Sokyo Lounge at the Star is one you’ll want to linger at, lay back, see and be seen with some of the best people watching in town.

Whether you want to mix with the high rollers or be charmed by Jamie Flemming’s gifted boys behind the bar, The Star has come out swinging with some of its finest talent creating a new cocktail bar backed by hatted Chase Kojima’s food and global award winning mixologist Michael Chiem.

Sokyo Lounge’s menu is comic book meets molecular magic, doubling as an entertainment zine where speech bubbles and caricatures depict cocktails – fancy a ‘Hanky Panky’ or perhaps a ‘Prumble’ with house smoked plums n’ a dash of rum and citrus?

Make a night of it with kingfish miso ceviche, nigri crispy rice tuna with truffle salt and chilli de arbole with tempura cuttlefish. Jump into more serious action from the main Sokyo menu with king brown mushrooms decadently covered with a cloud of truffle or opt for divine basil lamb chops with black garlic.

This is one of the best cocktail bars in town, which isn’t afraid to have fun, live in its own skin and be a bit proud and nerdy given its technical excellence.

About the author

Karen’s corporate job back in the UK had included entertaining clients in some of the best restaurants. This ultimately sparked a curiosity 'Just how do they do that?' (she confesses she was brought up on meat and vegetables, so this was all very exciting). Currently a Mr & Mrs Smith 'Tastemaker', she’s flashpacked around the world, learning about wine, experiencing different cultures and cuisines and had a two- year love affair with it all. Originally from England, she finally settled in Australia and continues to be besotted by food, wine and travel preferring to focus on the luxury end of town (thread count does matter).
