Ever fancied your very own private Masterchef Masterclass experience without the fear of elimination from Matt, Gary or George? Well it’s all yours at Sydney Seafood School.

This is a cooking experience filled with learning, laughter and sensational seafood. The Sydney Seafood School (SSS) have pulled out all the celebrity stops for a winter line-up of hatted chefs who reveal their culinary secrets in intimate cooking classes. Ever wanted to chat to Neil Perry, Christine Mansfield, Jonathan Barthelmess, Hamish Ingham, Guillaume Brahimi or Shaun Presland? This is the inside scoop on how to do it.

Thanks to Michael McCann of Dreamtime Australia Design, a stunning sandstone entry wall greets you along with an Icelandic fish leather lined auditorium created by award-winning sculptor Michael Purdy. This must be Australia’s most beautiful cooking school.

As your celeb chef takes the stage you will see the menu being cooked before your eyes and learn insider hatted chef cooking secrets. We stopped by to see Hamish from Bar H in action. We walked away with insider knowledge on how he created his famous tempura saltbush, the secret to buying the best kingfish and where to go for the best suppliers of Japanese ingredients.

Next is the big reveal…doors pull back to expose a cook’s heaven! A room filled with stainless steel cooking islands fitted with state-of-the-art Fisher & Paykel appliances. Ingredients include premium seafood, vegetables, condiments and spices all conveniently pre-weighed. The next hour is spent making new friends re-creating culinary masterpieces with your celebrity chef wandering by to make sure your julienne is perfect.

The highlight is sitting down to dinner with your team, drinking premium wines in a dining room shining with fishnet chandeliers that illuminate a photo mural of Blackwattle Bay. Take a moment to marvel at just how amazing you are.

So next time friends come over to your pad, wear your SSS chef apron with pride and listen to the ‘wow’s’! When asked how you did it… just tell them it all came naturally – we won’t tell.

Karen Lawson

Karen Lawson's corporate job back in the UK had included entertaining clients in some of the best restaurants. This ultimately sparked a curiosity 'Just how do they do that?' (she confesses she was brought up on meat and vegetables, so this was all very exciting). She's the ex MD of Spotify, Peloton and has been a Mr & Mrs Smith 'Tastemaker', she’s flashpacked around the world, learning about wine, experiencing different cultures and cuisines and had a two- year love affair with it all. Originally from England, she's settled in Australia and continues to be besotted by food, wine and travel preferring to focus on the luxury end of town (thread count does matter).
