Salt Meats Cheese

Three simple words. Three syllables. And when the timing is right, they have the power to send you into raptures.

If your love for cheese and cured meats verge on unwavering, prepare to swept off your feet at this salted protein nirvana.

Imagine the Sweet Home Alabama Tiffany’s scene, only in place of diamonds there’s monstrous wheels of briny salume and a dazzling display of the freshest pecorino, ricotta and mozzarella cheese.

Cheese is certainly the jewel in the crown of this airy warehouse space, which shares real estate with sprawling coffee haven The Grounds of Alexandria. That’s where cousins Stefano and Edoardo put on live cheese demonstrations as part of their weekly market, an alfresco display of the magic they wield in the cold room “cheese lab” — think Gelato Messina for those with a savoury tooth.

Other produce on show includes more than a dozen different types of gourmet salt, rainbow-coloured pasta, tinned hearts of palm and the full stock of Casa Gusto goods. All of it is either imported, organic or locally-sourced.

The confines of Salt Meats Cheese might be freezing, but those Italians can really make your heart melt.
