DA Style Guide – androgynous dressing

Diane Keaton’s Annie Hall. The return of sharp 80’s power suits. The fashion forward Harry Styles, well, style… Androgynous dressing sure gets the people talking. With celebrities charging ahead, brands are now creating specifically unisex or gender-bendable clothes with new proportions, cuts and campaigns. From the oversized trend, to loungewear, to his and hers shirts, romphims, three piece suits, to multi sized lines – DA unpack where to find it and how to wear it.

SIR

SIR The Label tends to own the stylish Aussie boho vibes. This season? They have mixed it up a little. 2020 has seen us indoors and at our home bases more than ever before so supplying our comfy couch demands, SIR have dropped their unisex sweats and basics range that happily includes track shorts and incredibly cosy hoodies. They also just launched their first mens rang (shop it here). Their monochromatic wares make dressing oh-so-easy to roll out of bed and slip into – whilst still looking ‘put together’. Their matching unisex sweaters and pullovers mean the proportions are on point –  all you have to do is make sure your partner, mate or housemate doesn’t steal them first!

Lee

This writer used to work at General Pants Co. and knows first hand that if you want quality effortless comfort and enviable street style, the gear from Lee is right up there. Guys looking for the perfect skinny jeans if you are on the slight side? These guys have just the fit for you (don’t be scared to dabble in the ladies side too – it’s a nice ‘life hack’ to find your perfect fit). Ladies want to rock the oversized denim and shearling jackets that are bang on trend right now… but need some length? The guys’ Lee denim jackets and cosy sweaters are perfectly proportioned for the taller gal. This writer has been wearing their comfy guys tees, jumpers and jackets forever.
Trust me, they last the test of time and look good doing it.

ASOS

With the sheer amount of great brands and styles available, ASOS has everything you could ask for to hit any trend bang on. When it comes to androgynous and unisex styles we are loving their take on wedding attire. Should you want to break with tradition in style – guest and bridal party alike – their take on the oversized tux jacket, tailored jacket dress or pant suit is the chic option to get you there. The team from ASOS also have you covered (literally) in the street style department with their unisex and street brand Collusion that offer cosy unisex track sets, sharp shirts, on trend jackets and sweaters. When looking to replicate the effortless oversized trend – their boxy mens cropped jackets easily double as a womens oversized outerwear – just throw over skinny jeans or a dress for that balanced ‘omph’. Have a stressful meeting but want to look polished yet still edgy? With countless suit sets to mix and match so you can ace that meeting (and still feel slick).

Double Rainbouu

Hawaiian shirts happily used to yoyo in and out of fashion faster than you can say ‘aloha’. Yet the ‘style set’ have never banished them far, even if worn ‘ironically’. Their status has recently reached its peak in our eyes with the forever muse – Zöe Kravitz rocking them in new TV show, High Fidelity. The serious fashion moments (catch it at ABC iveiw) are definitely worth a watch. Especially her oversized printed shirts, long line leather coat, ripped jeans and ‘I don’t give a ****’ attitude. If fixing to steal this lewk (us too) look no farther than the Bondi dream team at Double Rainbouu. Creating the perfect unisex styled shirts to lounge poolside or grab a beer with mates. The colours are bright and vibrant and the cuts are his and hers magic.
Borrowing from the boys never looked so good.
