Head for The Woods Feast

The Woods_banquet produceAt some point this winter you’ll ask yourself – ‘Have I shared a good hearty meal around the table with family/friends?’. If the answer is ‘no’, you probably missed The Woods Shared Feast call out.

Gather your crew and head to The Woods – not literally, rather the city restaurant within the walls of Four Seasons Hotel Sydney.

The dining experience begins as soon as you take your seat at the Chefs Table, flanked by a wood-fired oven and open plan kitchen, you’re in for a night of culinary theatre. 

Chef Jared Reeves has collaborated with Sommelier Clint Hillery, creating a six-course degustation that’s all about homely and hearty dishes. Give them twenty-four hours notice and they’ll create a mystery menu based on what’s fresh and in season. You might start with freshly shucked Wallis Lake oysters and a charcuterie selection of duck and pork terrine. Next, you could be served some perfectly grilled prawns, fennel and tahini mayo, along with succulent and smokey octopus with boudin noir (blood sausage), carrot puree and caper berries.

Remember that wood-fired oven we mentioned? That’s where your whole John Dory (with burnt butter and caper sauce) will be cooked, perhaps a half duck with native Australian berries too. Slow roasted rib eye comes straight from the Aztec grill with an array of condiments including black garlic, bernaise, seeded mustard and salsa verde. A side of pumpkin with midnight moon cheese shavings rounds the savouries off nicely.

When it’s time for the sweet stuff, have your fingers crossed for The Woods signature deconstructed ricotta cheesecake with rhubarb and pistachio. 

The only way this shared feast gets better is if you opt for the matching wines selected with care by Hillery. There are three matching wine lists to be pleasantly surprised from including ‘Classic’, ‘New & Exotic’ or ‘Internationals’.
