This Hampton Hotel Hampton review dives into one of bayside Melbourne’s liveliest beachside pubs, where live piano, big-screen footy and elevated pub grub all collide.
Nothing beats a beachside pub. Even in the depths of winter, the mere knowledge it’s right next to a sandy beach, gives a sense of warmth, chill and holiday summer happiness.
Hampton Hotel is the epitome of this. Arriving on a chilly Saturday night, we enter and the mood is simply awesome. Music pumping, cocktails rattling and it has a bustling glow. High ceilings, inside foliage and a massive wine wall create an elevated, slight posh environment. Yet whilst high end, it’s still totally and utterly a pub.

Inside Hampton Hotel Hampton – Bayside Buzz
Being seated, we see each table is packed. Lads on high tops knocking down frothies, ladies with empty bottles of champagne, big groups young and old. Happy children running around makes me feel kind of guilty for leaving mine at home. But when I hear the banter in the bathroom of “Mums Night Out”, I’m glad it’s not just me that glammed up and left the kidlets at home.
There’s a dozen massive TV screens with live sport on display, and I silently chuckle as I watch avid footy blokes’ eyes wander around to surreptitiously check out scores without their wives noticing. (like what my husband does when he’s trying to be cheeky and take a sneak peak on his phone, this is a much easier approach).

Sipping Wines and Eating Pub Grub at Hampton Hotel
We start with a very reasonably priced bottle of Riesling Freak No. 4, which goes down a treat. Then some shared plates. Stracciatella has an interesting pesto sauce, (albeit served with a slightly limp piece of pale bread that seems a bit stale and needs more charring) , but hey, it is a pub. Korean Chicken bites are crunchy, sweet and sticky, way more elevated than a KFC. Whilst licking my fingers of deep friend goodness, underneath is a bed of coleslaw, and eating it makes me feel a bit more virtuous. Calamari salad is pretty much what you see is what you get. Slithers of soft cal on a green garden salad. And its just an all round yum meal.

The Show-Stealing Piano Man at Hampton Hotel
Just when we think the night can’t get better, at 8pm, the Piano man begins. Well, Elton John eat your heart out, this dude is absolutely sensational. Suddenly the footy scores become less important, and its eyes on the Piano guy. The hotel should be charging us entry fees just to hear him, he is that good.
Not many places embody it all. A tad of posh, a smash relaxed, service with a smile, a venue for young and old. A destination you can wear your Gucchi heels, or ripped jeans and ugg boots and still be comfortable. Hampton Hotel has friggin nailed it.
What We’re Addicted to: Frothies, footy, champagne, piano tunes and good food. Hampton Hotel has something for everyone.
What We Need to be More Addicted: More frequent appearances from the piano man. Two nights a week simply isn’t enough.
