Once a year, Melbourne becomes an open book.
Buildings that are usually closed, or private, or reserved for those who ‘belong’ there, are opened up. Stories are told about them. People can share in the meaning of these buildings, and the day-to-day purpose that they offer. The building of each space tells a story. From the gold rush to post war design, each building was made with a purpose.
For the weekend of July 26 and July 27 more than 100 venues will open their doors, with an emphasis on showcasing great design right here in Melbourne.
The buildings on display will be varied and a real cross-section of the city. Take a walk through Hamer Hall, Australian Catholic University, Como House and Garden, East Melbourne Library, The Hotel Windsor, NAB, St Patrick’s Cathedral, Young and Jackson Hotel, and even the Supreme Court.
There’ll also be a range of tours with oncologists walking guests through Peter MacCallum sharing insights, and even homeowners opening up and sharing their abodes with tour guests.
