Put the past on your plate at The Governors

The GovernorsDo you spend more time thinking about food than catching up on current affairs?

If you’re a foodie first, citizen of the world second (unless of course, if it comes to restaurant openings and the latest rounds of culinary awards), now is the time to satisfy your taste buds and get in touch with the world.

The Governors Table Bar & Dining by Fresh Catering is the brand new venue at Museum of Sydney and it’s bringing history to your plate.

The menu will take memos from the past, using elements of traditional cooking techniques and giving them a modern twist. Chef Tim Bryan will whip up dishes like Hot Smoked Quail with Apple Kim Chi and Miso dressing, slow cooked eggs on brioche and braised beef short rib with a Gentleman’s Relish – with the kitchen open for breakfast, lunch and dinner.

Book in during the day and squeeze in a visit to the Museum’s exhibitions, which cover everything from Australian architecture to models of the First Fleet ships.

The museum walls might showcase relics from the past, but The Governors will be very much this century. The space has been given a makeover by inochi DesignLife – bronze and copper mirrors adorn the walls and modern timbers overlay the bespoke driftwood used throughout the dining space.

Get in early and book the enormous 16 seat French oak banquet table for a Game of Thrones-worthy feast underneath the room’s soaring ceiling where you and your guests can enjoy communal dining, or book the entire table for special celebrations (think like ones Governor Phillip once held).

Lisa used to use Sydney as a base to drop off souvenirs before heading off on the next adventure but these days she’s got her feet almost on the ground, with a desire to try every high tea in Sydney, and a cute cavoodle puppy at home. Travel writer, photographer and Kitchen Aid freak, she loves to eat, bake and write.
