What’s in a name? Scale 47 floors to take in the stunning views from Michael Moore’s dizzying Summit restaurant and the answer is “a lot”.
But the reincarnation of this gastronomic and visual icon is proof that a rose by any other name would smell — and, just as importantly, look — just as sweet.
The flower of Sydney’s visual victory garden has wilted, but not ungracefully. In its place has sprung up the fresh O Bar & Dining, which invests its predecessor’s vertigo-inducing 360-degree CBD views with a multi-level dose of contemporary cool. The lobby bar, lower lounge and main restaurant boast a plush fit-out heavy on silver and graphite, which seep through into Summit’s lavish private dining room.
And in this case indulgence isn’t necessarily followed by an ensuing sense of guilt. O Bar’s menu is inspired not only by seasonality and ripeness but by Moore’s Blood Sugar philosophy, with the offering of healthy contenders to his infamous pork belly revolving faster than the eatery itself.
It was Coco Chanel who claimed that in order to be irreplaceable one must always be different, but evidently food and fashion aren’t always mutually exclusive.
