For the Love of Coffee

There are two types of people in this world: Those who love coffee, and those who trail a heady air of suspicion.

Stop even thinking about how the other half get out of bed on chilly Sunday mornings, and let your senses lead you towards the Quay. These are your people.

The drip junkies behind The Rocks Aroma Festival have seriously upped the caffeine dosage for their 15th birthday.

Think Cellar Door for bean fiends – you’ll want to be pacing yourself through coffee cupping sessions and tastings from just $2 a sample, with plenty of coffee-inspired sweet treats to complement.

If you do feel the caffeine sweats coming, watching 8,000 cups of coffee turn into a mosaic of a mystery famous face, or ogle at the city’s best baristas showing some flare. Though no promises the latter will slow your soaring heart rate – there’s nothing like a man who knows his way around a reverse French press.

And you better hope you’re harbouring a bias: Giving your favourite café a nod for the ‘Aroma Cup’ prize gets you a chance to win a $1,700 prize pack, including an ECM Casa IV coffee machine plus accommodation and dinner for two in The Rocks.

It’s good to experience how the other half lives. But not until you’ve had your morning coffee.
