Supernormal Canteen

Andrew McConnell and his team are gearing up to open the new and highly anticipated Supernormal. What better way, than with a test kitchen pop-up until the end of December?

Supernormal Canteen, found next to Cutler & Co on Gertrude Street will give punters a taste of what’s to come.  A handful of dishes from the Supernormal menu will be trialled giving everyone a chance to warm up to the real deal that will open in the CBD yearly 2014.

The fit out by Projects of Imagination keeps things clean and simple with a Japanese influence throughout. Expect a mix of communal and table seating, the main design features including pink neon signs and paper lanterns that hang from the roof.

Asian street style dishes are the main event here. Think pig’s head bao with kimchi cucumber. Along with a low key, snack style menu, the drinks list sticks to the same vibe with cocktails, sake, and Asahi on tap. It’s more relaxed than any other McConnell venture, and we’re not surprised. It seems the order of things when it comes to restaurants these days.

Word on the street tells us that there will be a karaoke bar in Supernormal when it opens.  Warm up the vocals.
