Stitch and Sew

Thread Den opens in Fitzroy
Pick a statement that rings true to you. 1. You can thread a bobbin, have the best of intentions to make a new dress but it turns out looking like an inappropriate apron?  2. You are the next Coco Chanel in the making (you just don’t own a sewing machine?) No matter what your answer, you’ll want to check out Thread Den.

Putting the style back into sewing, Thread Den began their adventures of teaching sewing to a new generation in 2007 in North Melbourne. Created by four women who bonded over sewing and vintage fashion, they wanted a space where like-minded people could make contacts, share ideas, work on projects and use sewing equipment in a relaxed, nurturing environment.

Fast-forward to March 2010 and phase two of their dream has been realised with the opening of their second space in Brunswick St, Fitzroy. “This is a shopping destination where we showcase our designer product and have classes all in the one space” says Kylie Shepherd (Retail & Store Manager).

You can fossick through their range of vintage fabrics, patterns or Australian designer pieces or drop into the sewing lounge and hire one of the machines. It’s all about creating and appreciating others creations.  Oh, and just in case you thought this was a female only zone, the boys sewing classes prove pretty popular too.
