About Dr. Chris Brown
Dr Chris Brown—yes, that Chris Brown, the veterinarian-turned-television-personality who’s made a career out of being impossibly charming/good looking while discussing intestinal parasites—has ventured into the pet product arena with his brand, Drool. It’s a logical progression, really. After years of treating animals and advising pet owners on national television, he’s now putting his name (and expertise) behind products designed to improve our pets’ lives.
Drool by Dr. Chris Brown
Drool positions itself as a premium pet brand that combines veterinary knowledge with thoughtful design. The range includes beds, accessories, and wellness products, all wrapped in sleek, modern packaging that wouldn’t look out of place in a high-end homewares store. It’s aiming for pet owners who view their animals as family members deserving of quality products rather than discount-bin afterthoughts.
The Spine Align™ bed launched recently and is one of Drool’s flagship orthopedic offerings, and given Dr Brown’s veterinary background,my expectations are naturally high. Can a celebrity vet’s product line deliver genuine value, or is this just another case of slapping a famous name on otherwise unremarkable merchandise? Maggie and I are about to find out.
The SpineAlign™ Dream Bed – First Impressions
There are two choices of colour, Oat and Navy and its comes in two sizes, Pocito or Grande.
When the Spine Align™ bed arrives at my door, I’m immediately struck by the packaging—it’s surprisingly compact for what promises to be a premium orthopedic dog bed. As I pull it out the foam starts enlarging and, with some massaging it springs to full glory! Maggie, my greyhound, is already circling with that peculiar mix of excitement and suspicion that only a retired racer can muster. The box is substantial, and I’m relieved to see it’s not drowning in excessive plastic packaging.
Design & Build Quality
The Spine Align™ bed presents itself as a serious piece of canine furniture rather than just another dog bed. The outer cover features a textured, durable fabric that immediately feels like it can withstand Maggie’s notorious digging rituals before she settles down. The colour is a rich navy with white trimming. The first thing is how stylish it its. My other beds are Snooza’s which are super comfy but not the most astetically pleasing dog bed to look at when you step into the house. It’s a better lifestyle edit to my home decor without screaming “dog bed” from across the room.
This is the first vet-designed bed for their spine and joints. With 30 individual vertebrae and small joints dogs need the best possible support and even running in their sleep!
What’s particularly clever is the dual-layer design. There’s a supportive base layer that provides the orthopedic foundation, topped with a softer comfort layer. It’s essentially the dog bed equivalent of a high-end human mattress. It’s also certified free of odours, toxins and chemicals like formaldehyde and made in Oz.
The stitching is robust, I really love the white trim and the zippers are heavy-duty – critical details when you’re dealing with Maggie who treats beds like archaeological dig sites. The non-slip base is a smart touch, though I’m testing this on carpet where everything stays put anyway.
Comfort & Support
Here’s where things get interesting. Maggie, with her bony greyhound frame and complete lack of natural padding, is the perfect test subject for any bed claiming orthopedic benefits. She circles the bed three times (standard protocol), digs at it twice (revised down from her usual five), and collapses into it with an audible sigh.
This is memory foam does its job. I can see her spine settling into a neutral position rather than the slight curve she adopts on cheaper beds. For a breed prone to pressure sores and joint issues, this actually matters. The Spine Align™ seems to distribute her weight intelligently. It is designed to support all 4 stages of movement – restorative sleep, letting them stretch, curl and roll freely, with proper blood and joint fluid flow for full-body recovery. Maggie is a sleeper/roacher and over the weeks I have seen her in all these stages.
Over several weeks, I notice Maggie chooses this bed more frequently than her other options. Greyhounds are notoriously particular about their sleeping arrangements, often preferring the couch to anything marketed specifically for dogs.
Practicality & Maintenance
The removable, machine-washable cover is non-negotiable for me, and thankfully, Chris by Dr Brown understands this. The cover comes off easily, with zips underneath. No wrestling match required and survives multiple washing cycles without noticeable pilling or fading. I wash it on a gentle cycle and line-dry, and it is maintaining its shape.
However, and this is crucial, the inner foam layers are not washable. This means any unfortunate accidents require spot cleaning. Unlike the fluffy anti-anxiety beds, I can easily put a vacuum over it to pick up crumbs from treats and other random stuff that tends to make its way onto her bed.
The bed retains its shape well. After a month of use, there’s no visible compression in Maggie’s preferred spots, which speaks to the quality of the foam. Cheaper beds would already be showing sad, permanent dips by now.
Value Proposition
Yes, the orthopedic benefits are real. For Maggie – a seven-year-old retired greyhound with the joints of a much older dog, the Spine Align™ bed has become her preferred sleeping spot. I can really see the science behind its design. If you have a younger dog, or one without joint issues or they don’t weigh much you might opt for a cheaper bed. Like humans I believe we are investing into their long term health by buying the best bed you can afford.
The Verdict
What are we Addicted to? Its such a stunning bed. It’s makes my lounge look good. The Spine Align bed from Chris by Dr Brown is a well-designed, thoughtfully constructed orthopedic dog bed that delivers on its promises. Maggie approves, and her opinion is the one that matters most. She can stretch the whole length. The memory foam provides genuine support, the cover is practical and durable.
What do we need to be more Addicted? The Spine Align bed is a premium purchase. There are only two sizes and luckily the grande is big enough for a greyhound to fully stretch out, there might be other owners who prefer ‘medium’, and there isn’t a third option. At the moment there are no replacement covers, BUT I hear they are coming in Nov 25. So perhaps we will see more colour choices, new cool fabric options for the summer the way Barney Beds and a number of other competitors incorporate comfort and think about home styling needs.
