Spice Temple now in Melbourne

Prepare your chopsticks in anticipation, Neil Perry’s exotic Asian abode; Spice Temple has finally opened in Melbourne.

After nearly two successful years in Sydney, it’s arrived at Crown where Bistro Guillaume once stood, and is the latest addition to Perry’s fast growing Melbourne brood (T.W.R and Rockpool Bar & Grill).

Over two levels, dangling beads and rustic wooden blinds hide secluded spaces for more intimate soirees, while the underground quarters are filled with more tables and an inviting bar.

We’ve consulted the stars and they’re saying the produce-focused cocktail list based on the 12 zodiac signs is a must-see (and try).

Taking inspiration from travels through provincial China, Perry and Head Chef Ben Pollard (ex Rockpool Bar & Grill) have mastered their own contemporary take on traditional Chinese fare.

The dishes are designed to share and come with varying levels of heat, intensity and prowess. Expect clever contrasting of tastes and textures to delight your senses.

Noteworthy dishes include lamb and cumin pancakes; fish drowned in heaven facing chillies and Sichuan peppercorns; and three shot chicken. If just the thought of chilli has your mouth tingling don’t despair, hot dishes are highlighted in red, while super special dishes like Sichuan influenced eight treasure boned whole duck require 24 hour notice.

With food and service that’s heaven-sent, this is one temple not short of worshippers.
