Leonard Mattis’ New Digs

In general it’s not advisable to wander down backstreets and enter into a stranger’s basement.

That is unless you’ve managed to secure an appointment slot at Leonard Mattis’ boutique new hair studio.

Tucked away on Fitzroy Place, this underground addition to the coiffeur’s quietly expanding empire exudes so much stark retro exclusivity you can probably smell it from street level. Unique works by the artists Lexi Land and Dion Hortsman break up the otherwise entirely white space, while still giving Mattis plenty of room to work his proven magic.

A combination of seemingly boundless mirrors and attentive one-on-one consultations might leave you feeling like you’re literally the only woman in the world. Though come September frequent art exhibitions will likely see the space abuzz with pulsing music and the heavy thud of Finsk platforms.

Don’t wait for your roots to reach crisis point before scheduling an appointment. This salon might be subterranean, but it won’t stay underground for long.
