ESCA any time of the day

Esca continues the legendary tradition of great breakfast as it takes over Naggy’s but that’s where the comparison stops; Espresso Bar up front, café by day and the introduction of dining by night creates a whole new spin on a much loved inner west hot spot.

The kitchen is run by a new duo powerhouse; El Mostafa Solaihan (ex Catalina’s and Wildfire) following over a decade of cooking in Italy and Nepalese pizza chef Ciroj.

Edwardian lamps cast soft glows over tables and Parisian style red sofas and plush arm chairs create perfect lounging areas to sip a glass of your favourite tipple (hurrah for BYO).

It’s on the plate where the transformation happens. Entrées of seared South Australian scallops and chorizo snuggle into a bed of cauliflower puree, delicately crispy zucchini flowers contrast a goat’s cheese and ricotta filling with braised eggplant and capsicum. No need for any “do I fancy fine dining or pizza?” dilemmas – have both! West Australian crab is generously twirled around pappardelle with prawns in a creamy cherry tomato base, or choose char grilled eyed fillet. Thin base pizza lovers will be in heaven with the Esca Supreme – think tasty Italian sausage and smoked ham cooked in a stone base oven with just the right amount of char.

So when you seek a day-to-night experience bring a change of clothes, a bunch of friends and a hearty appetite!
