Easy Lane brings hipster to Windsor

Flowers on the tables, hanging plants, dishes served in mini pots and desserts overflowing with sweets – you’d be forgiven for thinking we were in the inner west. But no, we’re in Windsor.

Easy Lane is not as the name suggests – it’s not in a laneway, or even on a street. Instead it’s a hidden oasis tucked into Windsor RSL. From the car park, the RSL lobby, even the restaurant’s front entrance which is off to the side of the club, you would never expect Easy Lane to emerge. Instead it does, like a hidden garden, plants blooming and flowering under big fans that keep things cool and breezy.

There’s a kids activity area up the back, along with an outdoor bar, but it’s up at the main bar where you’ll place your orders and peruse the pretty impressive drinks collection. They were out of frozen cocktails when we popped in, but next best was a great selection of gin – we’re talking a local and international line up  including one of our all time favs, Monkey 47.

Next to the bar, the pizza oven is kept nice and hot – kick start the evening with a creamy garlic cheese pizza that will keep the vampires away in a good way. A bit of fun on the menu are the “Trump Vs Kim Jong” chicken wings, half Smokey American bourbon buffalo BBQ wings and half sweet ‘n’ spicy hot Korean ‘gochujang’ wings. Save room for mains like Jurassic sized BBQ pork ribs, steaks, poke bowls and local favourite, chicken tenders. The trio of pies is almost too cute to eat, almost. You’ll be tempted to lick the copper pot clean when it comes to the slow cooked lamb and kaffir pastry.

When it comes to dessert, you’ve got four decadent dishes to choose from and they’re all the stuff of instagram fodder. Try sticky toffee date pudding served straight from the oven in a cute copper pot piled high with salted caramel toffee gelato and popcorn, and warm ricotta doughnuts.
