Denis the Menace

Stop, rewind, and think back to the good old school days. Denis the Menace, the latest café to hit the streets of Cremorne (code for Richmond) is like a fun school for big kids.

As you walk past the fresh herb garden into the atrium-like warehouse, you’ll find playful toys such as Lego tractors and Mr Men mugs filled with sugar. The menu includes a section for your ‘Doodles/Notes’ and you’re encouraged to keep yourself entertained by playing ‘Connect the dots’ while you wait for your food.

There’s definitely no tuck shop list, but rather a much healthier menu for those who want their stomachs filled. You could start your day with Sounds like ‘A – SAH-IE’, a smooth blend of acai, mango, blueberry, topped with fresh coconut, watermelon, strawberries, banana and passionfruit. The Big Green Food Fight is served as a raw green mix of shredded kale, broccoli, avocado, buckwheat and pistachio. It’s full of super-foods, super crunch, and has a kick of fresh chilli with a perfectly poached egg.

When school’s really out, kids are catered for too, with a dedicated menu just for them. You can wash it down with a spot of colour (a pressed juice) or a seven seeds coffee and chase with a dark, rich, raw cacao and salted caramel slice.

Denis brings a bit of nostalgia, a hunk of quirk and a whole lot of deliciousness.
