Cold snap in the city

Sydney Winter Festival
For most of us urbanites the term ‘outdoor ice’ conjures up images of Eskys and Calippos.  It makes for a pleasant surprise then, to find a skating rink in the middle of the CBD.

Your Christmas card fantasies are about to come true. Put on your mittens and make like Torville and Dean on the ice rink, do a spot of curling or watch an alpine film such as the world famous Hahnenkamm Downhill Race in the outdoor cinema.

Though it’s chilly outside you can warm up with roasted chestnuts, AustrianGermknoedel (yeast dumpling with sweet and spicy plum jam); Grostel (a mix of potatoes, ham, noodles, eggs and onion) or some strudel and gluehwein.

Then get those creative juices flowing by entering the Enlightened Art Competition or participate by wandering through the exhibition giving out mental blue ribbons.

And for the kinders? They’ll want to play with the baby mountain goats, or if they’re Wii-oriented, send them down the hill in the ski simulator.

Time to get your skates on.
