The bright new eatery is a second for the twosome who started Window Espresso (no more) in St Kilda. They’ve taken the ‘venue transformation’ to a whole new level, actually converting an old laundry just next to the train station, and in doing so offered the Armadale set a trendy new abode.
High white walls, loads of sunlight and raw finished wooden tables give a fresh airy feeling you would expect, plus the rooftop tea towel (180 of them!) panels offer a glimpse of its former past. You can even peg yourself outside if dining al naturale is more your method.
Breakfast is bang on, the menu is mixed with a number of great tastes to get your day-spinning, like baked bean & fetta cassoulet with green olive tapenade and wild rocket, or Bircher muesli served with toasted coconut and passionfruit. Lunch is just as enticing with bites like warm chermoula spiced chicken w couscous, rosewater infused apricot and pine nut salad, coriander and tahini yoghurt, and before the year is out you’ll be able to complement with a glass of vino.
The bread is Noisette; the coffee, Allpress; the sweet preserves, Jam Lady Jams; veggies and fruit are fresh from the Yarra Valley, and they even smoke their own trout. Nice.
The only waiting now is for nourishment, neither wash-basket nor soap-suds required.
