Boutique beer and market artisans unite

This weekend take a break from picking over your fruit and veg and haggling over fromage at Prahran Market to try a golden drop or two at Matilda Bay’s Brewer’s Bite stall.

If you’re one to turn your nose up at the amber nectar, it’s worth noting beer has undergone a mini revolution. No longer is it the stuff your Dad use to drink. Today there’s a bevy of boutique beer styles oozing flavour and aroma, which can be matched to fine fare just as well as (and some will argue better than) wine.

Amongst the beets, bananas and buffalo mozzarella, you’ll find a couple of brewers, from the award-winning Victorian brewery serving their quirky brews alongside culinary canapés created with market fresh produce by kitchen kings Blake’s Feast.

Courtesy of Matilda Bay, match Fat Yak, an American Pale Ale to mini-pizzas with chorizo, roasted peppers and goats cheese; Big Helga, their saluté to Oktoberfest lagers with porky pies; and Beez Neez, yes a beer handcrafted with honey to mustard glazed wings.

So don your list, take advantage of all the fresh spring produce and pick up some tips about matching beers to your next menu.
