Easy Peasy

In the sleeply Forest Lodge end of Glebe a Food Revolution is happening.

Get ready for lovely jubbly, pukka tukka that Jamie Oliver would be proud of. Nick Johnson and Tom Stoneham (ex Jamie’s Italian) are going gangbusters just a few days in from launch and there’s not a whif of mockney about these two.

They are, however, obsessed with local, organic, ethical food creating a homely environment so darn comfy your uggs will be jealous. The choice of attire is challenging: Do you turn up in your jammies following wafts of daily house-made raisin bread and spiced cinnamon butter, tuck into free-range bacon and eggs then stay for a mid morning Five Senses Coffee (care of crack barista Peter Darnell)? Do you dress up for lunch, pop back for an afternoon freshly baked muffin, or laze about on the chesterfield with a Murrays Whale Ale? Be prepared to layer clothing as you can find yourself grazing from dawn till closing.

Even the boys in the pub next door are sending their plates over for dinner and what a treat! Feed me ‘Now’ types will devour the organic chicken liver pate lifted by the citrus twang of peppered orange or luscious bresola painted with Parmesan, apple and balsamic reduction. ‘Soon’ offers chunky line caught fish n chips with perky crushed peas. Pasta is crackin’ as tagliatelli cuddles up grass fed beef ragu. Hunter Binnorie showcases thoughout the menu, goat’s cheese is brilliantly paired with an elegant organic beetroot risotto. ‘Laters’ doesn’t disappoint with gooey chocolate pudding and an inventive Arborio brulee.

With BYO at $8 and local wines such as Canberra Wylie Trout on offer, this is one ‘blindin’ local you may want to move suburb for.

About the author

Karen’s corporate job back in the UK had included entertaining clients in some of the best restaurants. This ultimately sparked a curiosity 'Just how do they do that?' (she confesses she was brought up on meat and vegetables, so this was all very exciting). Currently a Mr & Mrs Smith 'Tastemaker', she’s flashpacked around the world, learning about wine, experiencing different cultures and cuisines and had a two- year love affair with it all. Originally from England, she finally settled in Australia and continues to be besotted by food, wine and travel preferring to focus on the luxury end of town (thread count does matter).
