The tastiest bird in town

Pull out the party poppers, two-hatted Ortolan has left Leichardt’s land of spaghetti and moved to party central in the former Bayswater Brasserie site at the Cross. Lovers of French food rejoice!

Whilst fine diners enjoy front row viewing, it’s the bistro situated in the glorious indoor garden area which will be the first choice for most punters.

The theatre commences as two waiters carry a charcuterie board the size of a door; behold 15 glorious house-made parfait, roulade and ballotines made from a dizzying array of the animal kingdom. Carnivores eat your heart out.

Drool as wafts of toasted house-baked brioche slathered with lashing of butter arrives. Wine buffs will fall in love with the accent of French Sommelier Philippe LeBrun and his unique sourced bio/organic wines.

Go out with a ‘Bombe’ diving into the white chocolate and hazelnut Alaska.

About the author

Karen’s corporate job back in the UK had included entertaining clients in some of the best restaurants. This ultimately sparked a curiosity 'Just how do they do that?' (she confesses she was brought up on meat and vegetables, so this was all very exciting). Currently a Mr & Mrs Smith 'Tastemaker', she’s flashpacked around the world, learning about wine, experiencing different cultures and cuisines and had a two- year love affair with it all. Originally from England, she finally settled in Australia and continues to be besotted by food, wine and travel preferring to focus on the luxury end of town (thread count does matter).
