Goodness at The Grain Store

The GrainForget about a fry up – The Grain Store is bringing goodness back to breakfast.

Tucked into the western end of Flinders Lane, well away from the competitive strip of Cumulus Inc, Meatballs and Chin China, The Grain Store is doing it’s own thing. Think plenty of fresh flowers, a jumble of giant pumpkin and a real commitment to locavore living.

Chef Info Meissner has a resume that reads like a top dining list: St Ali Coffee Roasters, Fitzrovia Fine Food Republic, Outpost Café, Crown Casino, Hilton Sydney. Germany, Switzerland, Bermuda, Canada and the UK. He’s been busy.

And he isn’t stopping now. The Grain Store’s “table of inspiration” menu takes breakfast dining to a new level. With a focus on seasonal produce and superfoods, there’s a good dose of chia seeds, quinoa, amaranth and goji berries.

But there’s also brioche, candied nuts, bacon and honey comb crumble on the menu. The Grain Store mixes goodness with guilty pleasures – you won’t feel guilty about the toasted Musli Parfait because the sweetness of crunchy cashews and toasted oats is paired back by quinoa milk, chia seed yoghurt and a tart mandarin roulade.

Likewise, a serving of apple, rhubarb & ricotta pancakes keeps the portions small, with three pikelets sprinkled lightly with a honey comb crumble.

At lunchtime the roasted pear and parsnip soup is a hearty winter warmer. Follow it up with baked to order baked choc chip cookies and milk.
