Take a Trip to Italy with Heartattack and Vine

Heartattack and Vine, it’s not just the name of a Tom Waits song. It’s now also the newest all day bar and eatery in Carlton. Who do we have to thank for this? The team behind Wide Open Road and A Minor Place, Hootan Heyderi and Jono Hill and two of their long-term employees Nathen Doyle and Emily Bitto. So we already know good coffee won’t be a problem.

The owners and clear music lovers wanted Heartattack and Vine to be reminiscent of the small neighbourhood bars they fell in love with during time spent in Italy. A place that is warm, welcoming, and casual; a place with delicious food and wine; and a place that is open from morning to night. Whether it’s your morning coffee and almond croissant, a hearty porchetta roll at lunch time or a class of wine and fried olives stuffed with anchovies at the bar at 6pm, they wanted it to be a space people felt comfortable in. All day. You know those little bars you found when lost in Europe and wished existed here? That’s Heartattack and Vine in a nutshell.

Sip an Airlie Bank Pinot Grigio from the Yarra Valley, a Casa Ulrich Tempranillo from Spain, or of course an Aperol Spritz or a glass of Prosecco.

It’s one of those venues that makes time fly. You stopped by for lunch and all of a sudden you’ve had one too many and finishing with dessert at 10pm. In the words of Tom Waits “what you say you meet me down on Heartattack and Vine?” We’ll be waiting.
