Viva la France

Bastille Day soirees
If your pathetique proletariat conscience won’t allow you to revel in some over-the-top decadence this Bastille Day, sure, stay home eating gruel and watching Les Misérables but if your blood runs blue, join the local bourgeoisie in partying like its 1789.

Get on the naughty grape juice with the famed proprietor of Château de Sours who will be celebrating Bastille Day the old fashioned way; by enjoying a glass or three of his own wine (show off). Sample some vino from the limestone plateau of south-west of Libourne in the Wine Odyssey Theatre and when done, head over to Les Golden Arches for some French frites.

France is one of the only countries to fully embrace ‘smelly feet’ as one of its key palate topnotes. Indulge in some luscious cheeses and meet a real life fromager at GPO’s French Classics evening.  Four cheeses will be matched with four wines, hand selected by GPO’s resident sommelier.

For the discerning palette, Bécasse will offer a 5-course regional French degustation menu with matching wines and Alliance Française, their annual chic soiree. And if you have some misguided desire to remain sober, celebrate in a matin friendly way and join the queue at Bourke St Bakery in Surry Hills for one of Sydney’s best croissants.
