The Galley at Sydney Boathouse brings boat life to shore

The GalleyWeekend breakfasts are sacrosanct. Whether with friends, alone or your beloved pooch, the morning food ritual sets the tone for the day, nay the whole weekend, so it’s important to get it right from your first Saturday latte.

If your idea of heaven is a space that overlooks the sparkling waters of Rozelle and lets you dream about life on a super-yacht then the The Galley at Sydney Boathouse needs to be on your must visit list.  The cafe gazes towards the city, nailing the relaxed yet glamorous vibe of the boating set. A large dining room sprawls out onto a sunkissed deck. It’s subtly nautically themed. No cheesy Love Boat memorabilia here. Instead, muted blue and white tones, large wooden tables and white chairs are arranged to fit large groups, or a few friends.

The breakfast menu has both classic and modern-day stars. We start with a generous serve of  black sausage paired with delightfully creamy scrambled egg, pomegranate, dill yogurt, roast tomato, herbs, spinach and sourdough. The signature smashed avocado is served with a poached egg, heirloom tomatoes and Persian fetta. You had us at the fetta. It’s a classic done well. Corn and zucchini fritters with a side of smoked salmon were the hero, the fritters the right amount of crispy on the outside, soft on the inside.

But for the absolute knock it out of the park (or riviera as the case may be) for anyone who likes a bit of dessert to start the day, the vanilla poached pear brioche with salted caramel, passionfruit cream, candied pistachio and lemon zest will change your world. It’s light, fine balance of sugar (because you’re sweet enough…) and delicious flavours that will practically guarantee the best weekend you’ve ever had.

For drinks, the Pash N Shoot juice; mango, pineapple, passionfruit and coconut water, will cure any Friday night ills and reboot your body. Enough of a reboot that you might just start imagining life with a  tall, muscular, bond-type man on a sleek looking boat. Because, this is the boat life daydream at its best.
